Copy Music from iPod to Hard Disk

Getting your music off your iPod back onto a hard disk has proved to be a real headache for some time. With the DRM built-into iTunes and iPods, you aren’t supposed to be able to get the music off your iPod once it’s been placed there. It seems a bit crazy, especially if your collection is legitimately bought on iTunes or your own CD collection.

There have been several solutions to this problem in recent years, namely EphPod which allows you to open the music stored on your iPod then copy tracks back onto your hard drive. However, with the 5G Video iPod this program is no longer able to copy all your files. There is another great little program available that will successfully copy your collection, either individually or entirely. iDump is a freeware program that can be run simultaneously with iTunes without disturbing your listening pleasure. I’ve personally tried and tested this program and I give it a thumbs up, with no problems to report so far! :)

Download iDump

UPDATE 30/08/07: Since upgrading my home PC to iTunesĀ  7.3.2, I have not been able to get iDump to work. It loadsall the files correctly but there is an error message when trying to copy files off the iPod onto the PC. I am running Vista as well. If anyone else is having this problem and has a solution please let me know. However, I am still running iTunes 7.0.2 at workon an XP PC and that works fine with iDump. Very strange :(
