I came across an interesting article that suggests wrapping external CSS files within a PHP page and then using g_zip. It certainly seems like an interesting idea. My only thought is to it’s backward compatibility with older browsers. This is something I am going to be testing. The comments in the article suggest a few problems, but this may be a good solution to help minimize the size of wordpress pages.
